“Top Environmental Law Scholar to Join Faculty of Pace Law School”

20 MARCH, 2013

WHITE PLAINS, NY, March 20, 2013 –Pace Law School will enhance its world-class environmental law program with the appointment of Professor Jason J. Czarnezki, an internationally recognized scholar in environmental and natural resources law and policy. Professor Czarnezki will join Pace, starting in the 2013-14 academic year, as the Gilbert and Sarah Kerlin Distinguished Professor of Environmental Law.

Professor Czarnezki comes from Vermont Law School where he serves as faculty director of the U.S.-China Partnership for Environmental Law and as a faculty fellow in its Center for Agriculture and Food Systems. He is currently the Chair of the Section on Natural Resources Law of the Association of American Law Schools. He has presented his work on environmentalism, natural resources law, food policy, and global climate policy throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

“Jason is an extremely well-regarded scholar and teacher,” commented Pace Law School Dean Michelle S. Simon. “His appointment is a major step towards Pace establishing the best environmental law program in the United States, if not the world.”

Professor Czarnezki’s extensive international experience includes serving as a Fulbright Scholar at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China, and a Visiting Fellow at the Uppsala University Faculty of Law in Sweden.

“I am honored and excited to join Pace Law School’s premier
environmental law program, home to current and future leaders working to solve our global environmental and energy challenges,” Czarnezki said.

Professor Czarnezki joins a faculty that includes Nicholas A. Robinson, University Professor on the Environment and Gilbert and Sarah Kerlin Distinguished Professor of Environmental Law.

“We welcome Jason Czarnezki and his pioneering legal scholarship to Pace,” said Professor Robinson. “His studies unite the global and the local, and excite students. His research, whether on the environmental laws of China or on local problems of our food safety and our carbon footprint, are innovative and enrich Pace’s J.D., LL.M. and S.J.D. programs. His scholarship will distinguish the Gilbert and Sarah Kerlin professorship and advance greatly the field of environmental law.”

Professor Czarnezki received his undergraduate and law degrees with honors from the University of Chicago. After graduation, he clerked for the Hon. D. Brock Hornby, U.S. District Court for the District of Maine. His articles have been published in the law journals of Boston College, Boston University, Georgetown University, Lewis & Clark Law School, Stanford University, University of Chicago, University of Colorado, University of Maryland, University of Utah, University of Virginia, and Washington University. His books include “Everyday Environmentalism: Law, Nature and Individual Behavior” (2011) and “Food, Agriculture & Environmental Law” (2013).
